Lucuma powder is made by first- drying lucuma fruit at low temperatures and then powdering it, this way, fewer antioxidants and other precious nutrients are lost. Lucuma fruit is native to Peru, and holds a high popularity in its country of origin. Powder, however is available worldwide as a low-glycemic sugar alternative. Compared to regular cane sugar, it contains fairly high amounts of fiber, as well as vitamins A, C, B3, and some minerals.
The texture of the Lucuma powder can be compared to the texture of granulated sugar, however the taste of it is more similar of brown sugar. This makes it easy to use as a substitute in recipes, especially in baking and desserts.
How to Use Organic Lucuma Powder and Enjoy It
Note that Lucuma Powder has less sweetness than sugar, so when used as a substitute, take two units of powder per one unit of brown sugar in the recipe. The taste might be slightly different depending on other ingredients used, so before you determine what tastes best for you, experimenting with proportions is a good idea.
You can use raw lucuma powder when baking and making your favorite desserts. Add it to your morning bowl of cereal or a smoothie. Use it as a flavor in homemade plant-based milk and ice-cream. Add some to your yogurt and your favorite beverages.
